A pickup truck was destroyed and a nearby garage was damaged in a fire behind 210 Douglas Street in Central City late Sunday afternoon.
The owner of the truck, Jay O’Brist, said the truck had not been used in some time and it caught fire as he was trying to start it.
In addition to the truck being destroyed, there was heavy damage to the siding of the garage and a hole left in the building.
Central City Police Officer Brody Meigs was nearby when the fire call went out and he was able to extinguish the majority of the fire with an extinguisher from his squad car before firefighters could arrive on the scene.
The fire call came in at five Sunday afternoon.
