Erwin H. Hahn, age 86 of Iuka, passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2021, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Erwin was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Iuka. He spent many years working as a farmer and raising hogs, as a mail carrier, and on a drilling rig. He served his country in the United States Army, was stationed in Texas, and worked at the Aberdeen Testing Center. He was a current board member on the Marion County Board, having started serving on December 1, 2002. He served on the Personnel, Road & Bridge, Law, Finance, Building & Historical, County and Community, UCCI, and South-Central Illinois Regional Planning and Development Committees, the Liquor Commission, and WIB 23.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 9, 2021, at the Iuka Cemetery with Pastor Aaron Kangas officiating. Military Rites will be accorded at the cemetery by the Salem American Legion. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Immanuel Lutheran School in Altamont, Trinity Lutheran Church, or Washington University for Myasthenia Gravis Research and can be left at the Crouse Funeral Home in Salem who is assisting the family with arrangements. He married Kathleen M. (Clifton) Hahn and she preceded him in death, he later married Rosalie (Jennings) Henson and she survives in Iuka. In addition to his wife Rosalie Henson, he is survived by one son, Dwight Hahn and wife Diana of Iuka; one daughter, Carolyn Hahn Swanson and husband Howard of Atlanta, Georgia; three grandchildren, Mindy Shoemaker and husband Derek, Megan Shellenbarger and husband Travis and Matthew Hahn and wife Kayla; and three great-grandchildren, Eli, Evelyn and Abram.
Erwin was born on October 17, 1934, in Iuka, the son of Herman John and Elsie (Koehnke) Hahn. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Diane Wodtka.
