The Illinois Department of Public Health reported one death in South Central Illinois on Sunday from COVID-19. It is a male in his 90s from Jefferson County. Two deaths were also reported in Madison County in the Metro-East.
There were 81 deaths statewide along with 4,469 new cases reported on Sunday. State officials have indicated numbers may be low over the weekend due to the New Year’s Holiday.
The preliminary seven-day positivity rate for December 27th through January second is 8.3-percent. The Southern Illinois Region positivity is at 12.1-percent for the week ending December 31st. The Marion County rate is at 10.4-percent. The Metro-East rate has bumped up to 13-percent. The East Central Illinois region is at 8.9-percent.
Hospital trouble spots are only 13-percent of ICU beds being available in the Southern Illinois Region and 16-percent in the Metro-East region.
