O. E. Stimson, 91, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 4:50 am on January 2, 2021, at Mount Vernon Countryside Manor in Mount Vernon. O.E. proudly served his country in the United States Navy from June 1947 to August 1952. He later worked as a Welder and Inspector for Illinois Central Railroad. He was well known for his Christmas decorations and was a member of the Masonic Lodge #31 A.F. & A.M. Mr. Stimson was an avid antique radio collector, at one point donating 104 antique radios dating from the 1920s to the 1950s to the Jefferson County Historical Society. He is dearly loved and will be missed by those who knew him.
A Visitation will be held Thursday, January 7, 2021, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Bethel Memorial Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Graveside Service will begin at 11:00 am at the cemetery with Pastor Michael Campbell officiating. Interment will follow. Memorials may be made in O. E.’s honor to the Harlan Church of God.

O.E. is survived by his sister, Joan Emrick of Centralia; brother, Stephen (Willetta) Stimson of Mackinaw, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
He was born August 15, 1929, in Jefferson County, Illinois to the late Jesse Wilbur and Edna Mae (Smith) Stimson. O. E. married Wanda Lee (Chapman) Stimson on April 16, 1955 in Mount Vernon, Illinois and she preceded him in death on March 25, 2008. In addition to his parents and beloved wife of fifty-two years, O. E. was preceded in death by his brother, Phillip Stimson.
