Although no Salem wrestlers advanced out of either the Vandalia boys or Peoria Richwoods Girls sectionals over the weekend, it was still a big step for the program that just finished its 2nd year of existence.
At Peoria, 3 Salem Lady Wildcat wrestlers competed. Greta Motch lost her first match by pin to Ava Beldo of Centennial. Motch then fell to Edwardsville’s Alie Chong in the consolation bracket by pin fall.
Adrieanna Dodson lost her first match to Emma Shelato of Bismarck by fall. She then lost in the consolation bracket by pin to Triad’s Harmony Martin.
Anna Dodson lost by pin in her opening match to Richwood’s Sydney Johnson. She then lost in the consolation bracket to Collinsville’s Hannah Jones.
Six Wildcat wrestlers competed at the very tough Vandalia Sectionals.
Carter Moore earned a bye in his opening round after going 33-11 this season. He then lost to Robert Wells of Paris in the quarterfinals. Moore then earned the first Sectional win for the Salem program as he beat Carterville’s Jacob Grob by a 5-2 decision before fallint to Hillsboro’s Zander Wells who ended up winning 3rd place.
Aden Doolen wrestled at 106 pounds. He lost his first match to Vincent Moore of Litchfield before losing to Roxana’s Savion Hall.
At 138 pounds, Kevan Moore found out Thursday that he would be competing in the weekend Sectionals. He dropped his opening round match to Anna’s Daniel Dover before losing to Oakwood’s Jack Ajster.
At 144, Keytin King earned a first round bye after going 39-6 this season, but fell in his first match to Oakwood’s Carter Chambilss. He then was eliminated by Roxana’s Trevor Gihring by a 7-5 decision.
At 150, Cooper Lobek fell to Robinson’s Ben Mullins in the opening match and then lost to Gage Boucher of Murphysboro.
At 190 pounds, Carson Osborne dropped his first match to Harrisburg’s Brendan Hicks before losing to Roxana’s Robert Watt.
