Heavy rains that moved through the region early Monday night may have been the cause of two single vehicle crashes.
A 54-year-old Salem woman lost control of her car on U.S. 50 west of Odin with the vehicle overturning on its top in the roadside ditch. Odin Fire Chief Greg Smith says the driver, later identified as Christina Logan of Indiana Street in Salem, was able to get out of the car on her own. She was treated on the scene and refused hospital treatment. The crash was reported at 6:19 Monday night.
Illinois State Police are handling the second crash on I-57 northbound at the 114 mile marker two miles south of Salem where a car ran off the road down an embankment. Salem Fire Protection District officials say the driver was able to get out of the vehicle on their own. The car was far enough off the road it was hardly visible. The crash occurred during heavy rains at 5:36 pm.
Salem Firemen were also called to South Hotze Road south of West Main where a vehicle stranded in high water. The driver was able to get back to dry land on their own without injury.
The Salem Water Plant recorded 2.1 inches of rain and the Centralia Water Plant .72 inches of rain. The rain wasn't enough to cause concerns with the level of Raccoon Lake.
