A 19-year-old Salem man involved in an alleged stabbing and shooting incident at a Salem apartment earlier this year has pleaded guilty in Marion County Court to a charge of defacing identification marks of a firearm serial number.

Landen McMinn, also known as Landen Williams of Country Club Acres, had a charge of aggravated battery dropped as part of the plea agreement.   He was sentenced to 30 months probation and given credit for 110 days served in the Marion County Jail.   However, he still remains in custody at the Marion County Jail on a no bond Texas warrant for burglary.  McMinn will now be asked to waive extradition so he can be returned to Texas.

Marion County State’s Attorney Tim Hudspeth earlier said that McMinn stabbed 20-year-old Eric Barham of West Kell in Salem in the back by a pair of scissors.  Barham was then allegedly shot in the hand as the two were fighting over control of a small pistol that McMinn had allegedly pulled from his pocket.  Barham also reportedly received bite wound to the back.

Salem Police first learned about the incident after Barham went to Salem Township Hospital for treatment.   McMinn was taken into custody a short time later after police issued several verbal commands for him to come out of hiding at the home in Country Club Acres he had been staying.   He then allegedly showed police were the gun was located.

At the time of the incident, Hudspeth said McMinn had been ‘couch hopping’ with relatives in the Salem area after his mother kicked him out of her house in Texas.
