The Centralia City Council Monday night will be asked to approve an agreement with the South Central Illinois Regional Planning and Development Commission to prepare a Comprehensive Plan for the city.
City Manager Kory Smith says professional standards recommend a new/updated comprehensive plan every 10 years to help guide the development and growth of a municipality. The last Comprehensive Plan adopted by the city of Centralia was in 2007. The American Planning Association says a comprehensive plan is a ‘process that seeks to engage all members of the community to create a more prosperous, convenient, equitable, healthy and attractive place for present and future generations.
The South Central Regional Planning Commission will be paid $25,000 for completion of the plan. It is anticipated it will take one year to cover all departments and services.
The council will also be asked to approve resolutions for temporary street closures for the Veteran’s Fourth of July Parade on July 4th and for the Locust Street Historical Fair on May 6th.
