The Centralia Pool Committee held their monthly meeting last night, which highlighted potential struggles that could impact the nature of the upcoming project.
Members of the committee dove into the financial details of pools from surrounding areas, such as Salem, Mt. Vernon, Carlyle, and New Baden, to gather an idea of what might be in store for a pool of similar caliber. As per previous meetings, an official from Mt. Vernon was supposed to present information regarding the Aquatic Zoo’s financial standing. However, despite many inquiries, the committee received no response, so the committee had only an annual budget summary to review.
One important topic in discussion was the means in which the pool will be financed. They discussed how Carlyle plans to fund their new pool: an approved referendum tax and a capital campaign. The committee believes that both items will be necessary for funding Centralia’s pool as well, as few potential grants have been located. A survey, which is currently in review, will be released to the public to gauge their feelings about the project and its financing.
The committee also plans to hold an open forum on February 25th to hear the public’s thoughts and to better explain circumstances and potential ideas to the public. They also hope to have Roger Schamberger from Burbach Aquatics attend the forum to provide expert input and present more potential ideas.
