Dawn M. Stedelin, age 72, of Huey, passed away at her home in Huey on Sunday, September 27, 2026.
Dawn was born in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, on February 19, 1954, a daughter of the late Arnold William “Bill” and Norma Jeane (Ahrens) Fritz. She married John Stedelin on October 22, 1994, and he survives in Huey.
In addition to her husband John, Mrs. Stedelin is also survived by her children, Jarrod Ashby of Belleville, IL, Joe Stedelin (Kristen) of Centralia, IL, Brook Stewart (James) of Robinson, IL, and Katie Markotay (Travis) of Centralia; a daughter-in-law, Michelle Rommelman; her grandchildren, Tyson Ashby, Jordyn Ashby, Addison Stewart, Keeley Stewart, Zack Stedelin, Jessica Stedelin, Faith Stedelin, Allie Stedelin, Emily Stedelin, Adah Stedelin, Seth Stedelin, Gunner Markotay, Ryder Markotay, and Anna Markotay; a great-granddaughter, Berklynn White; a sister, Jelene Rickhoff (KR) of Bartelso, IL; a brother, Dale Fritz of Birmingham, AL; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, John Stedelin.
Dawn was born into a military family and was moving and on the go throughout much of her life. She moved with her family from Clinton, Illinois, to Carlyle in 1966. She attended Carlyle Grade School, graduated from Carlyle High School in 1972, and went on to earn an associate degree from Kaskaskia College. Dawn worked for a time at the Assessor’s Office in Centralia before moving to Robinson, Illinois, where she worked at First Robinson Savings Bank. She later worked for Edward Jones and retired as a business office administrator. Dawn eventually returned to the area and made her home in Huey.
Dawn enjoyed traveling and loved visiting places throughout the United States, Mexico, and Europe. She also enjoyed painting and crafts, gardening, and taking on remodeling projects. Dawn loved her dogs and especially treasured time spent with her family and grandchildren. Whether they were relaxing by the pool or enjoying a boat ride together, Dawn loved every second spent with her family. A breast cancer survivor, Dawn also became active in cancer awareness events, using her own experience as a way to support and encourage others.
A Funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Zieren Funeral Home, 1111 Clinton St., Carlyle, IL. Interment will follow at Carlyle Township Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM on Thursday, October 1, 2026. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Dawn are kindly suggested to St. Jude Children’s Hospital and will be received through Zieren Funeral Home.
