There was another large turnout on Friday for the Salem Community High School Green Team Electronic Recycling Drive.
Noah Slater is the President of the student recycling effort.
“We’ve had a pretty consistent of cars coming in. We’ve had a good turnout. The boxes are full. A lot of electronics are being recycled. That’s good. We’ve had a lot of printers.”
Slater says about 25 students helped each hour. Sponsor Drew Johnson says they had about the same or just a little less donations as last Spring when they had a record collection.
“It’s gone very well today. The community has been very supportive. We were really lucky the weather held out for us. We had several businesses and tons and tons of personal house effects come in. It’s been pretty standard. Every year we think we have all of it and every year we get the next piles. We’re happy to do it for the community.”
No total collection figure is expected to be available for a few days. 16,246 pounds was collected last year.
Johnson says if you missed the electronics recycling drive, you can take items directly to Eagle Recycling on Shattuc Road north of U.S. 50
Johnson says the Green Team is about to embark on its other large project of the year, the recycling of all the paper products used during the year at the high school.
