DETROIT (AP) — Drew Allar threw for 292 yards and two touchdowns and Kaytron Allen ran for a career-high 137 yards, providing No. 11 Penn State with plenty of offense in a 42-0 win over Michigan State. The Nittany Lions had 586 yards of offense in a game they controlled from the start. The eight-loss Spartans closed a tumultuous season that was stunted by Mel Tucker getting suspended and fired. It also hurt that a slew of injuries left them with about 50 scholarship players healthy enough to play in the finale at Ford Field. Allar completed 17 of 26 passes, a week after getting knocked out against Rutgers with a hard hit to his right shoulder.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Less than an hour after Iowa recorded win No. 10 with a dramatic 13-10 victory over Nebraska, Hawkeyes coach Kirk Ferentz suggested his team actually should have had a chance to win 11 games in the regular season. A month after a ruling on whether a punt returner’s arm motion was or was not a fair catch signal took away an Iowa touchdown in a loss to Minnesota, Ferentz passionately revisited the episode during his postgame news conference. Ferentz said, “I’m just gonna tell you we got screwed on that one by the replay system.”

UNDATED (AP) — If it’s Michigan-Ohio State it is almost always a huge game. No rivalry has produced more games matching AP Top 25 ranked teams, top-10 matchups and top-five games. The Game is filled with lore and legends and thrilling performances. Even before the second-ranked Buckeyes and third-ranked Wolverines kick off Saturday in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the 119th meeting will be historic. One day it could make the list of the most memorable in perhaps the best rivalry in college football.

NICEVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Bruce Thornton scored a career-high 29 points, Roddy Gayle Jr. added a career-high 23, and Ohio State held back No. 17 Alabama’s prolific offense to beat the Crimson Tide 92-81 in a semifinal of the Emerald Coast Classic. Thornton, a sophomore, made consecutive 3s 19 seconds apart during a 10-0 run that gave the Buckeyes their biggest lead, 71-56 with 8:10 remaining. Alabama never seriously threatened after that. Grant Nelson scored 20 points and Aaron Estrada added 19 for the Crimson Tide. Alabama came in averaging 101.8 points, third-best in Division I, but struggled against Ohio State’s physical, man-to-man defense.

ESTERO, Fla. (AP) — Caitlin Clark scored 29 points and moved into the top 20 of Division I’s all-time scoring list, and No. 5 Iowa eased past Purdue Fort Wayne 98-59 in the quarterfinals of the Gulf Coast Showcase on Friday night. Clark finished the night with 2,901 career points, 19th most in Division I women’s history. Sharon Goodman scored 16 points and Hannah Stuelke had 13 points before leaving with an injury for Iowa (5-1). Clark finished with eight assists. Amellia Bromenschenkel led the Mastadons (2-2) with 16 points.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) — Terrence Shannon, Jr. scored 19 points as Illinois ended its six-game home stand to open the season by routing Western Michigan, 84-52. Illinois has won five of its first six games with only a loss to No. 4 Marquette.

PALM DESERT, Calif. (AP) — Caleb Love scored 17 points and made a key steal in the closing seconds to help No. 3 Arizona beat No. 21 Michigan State 74-68 in the Acrisure Classic. Love made 1 of 2 free throws with 24.6 seconds left to give Arizona a 72-68 lead. Tyson Walker drove into the lane at the other end before having his shot blocked by Keshad Johnson. Michigan State inbounded the ball with 15.9 seconds left, but Love poked it away from behind and passed ahead to KJ Lewis for a fastbreak dunk. Johnson had 13 points, 10 rebounds, four steals and two blocks for Arizona (6-0). Walker led Michigan State with 18 points.

KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) — Henry Coleman III scored 24 points, Wade Taylor IV had 23 and No. 12 Texas A&M beat Penn State 89-77 in the opening round of the ESPN Events Invitational. Tyrece Radford added 14 points for the Aggies, who improved to 5-0. Kanye Clary had 19 points for Penn State, which beat Texas A&M 76-59 in the first-round of last year’s NCAA Tournament. Penn State got within three several times during the second half and trailed 75-70 when Taylor hit a long-range 3 and Coleman had an inside basket to put A&M up 80-70 with three minutes to play. The Nittany Lions are 4-1.
