The Kaskaskia College Blue Angels Softball team began their postseason journey this past Saturday on May 6th against the Falcons of Southeastern Illinois College. This initial round of the Region XXIX playoffs set teams against one other in a best of three games format. Freshman Karlie McKenzie took the ball in game one for the third seeded Blue Angels and turned in a strong performance. McKenzie threw a complete game, striking out 14 batters and allowing only two runs in her seven innings pitched. At the dish KC took a balanced approach and tapped home plate six times, aided by a home run from Sophomore Sydnee Garrett. KC would win 6-2.
In game two of the series the Falcons jumped on the board early with a run in the first inning, but KC would come back in the second and third posting a pair of crooked numbers to take the lead 6-1. Sophomore Ivy Smart had the start in the circle for Blue Angels and held SIC to four runs on six hits in her four and a half innings pitched. McKenzie would re-enter in game two to close out the Falcons, securing a 6-4 win and advancing KC to the Region XXIX Final Four tournament this coming weekend at host school Rend Lake College.
Friday the regular season came to a close for the KC Blue Devils Baseball team. On Thursday, KC came away victory against Frontier Community College in the first game of a three game set. The Blue Devils posted 10 runs highlighted by home runs from sophomores Justin Bogard, Gavin Baldwin, Hunter Bilek, and Matthew Hunzinger. Freshman Donnie Zimmerman and Jude Tenny along with sophomore Clayton Taylor tossed eight innings of zero run ball, giving up seven hits and notching 10 strikeouts collectively in the 10-0 win.
Friday followed with a doubleheader here at KC to close out the regular season and the Blue Devils would see both those games go down as losses with scores of 16-5 and 10-0.
KC will now play this Thursday the 11th against the Southwestern Illinois College Blue Storm, at host John A. Logan in the Region XXIV tournament. Game time will begin at 3:00 PM in Carterville.
