While the Democratic super majority in the Illinois House and Senate liked what they heard from Chicago Mayor Election Brandon Johnson, local Republican lawmakers are not impressed.
State Senator Jason Plummer called Johnson’s plans a buffet of the same failed left-wing ideas that has caused the current mess the city is in right now.
“Kids’ in Chicago schools get a lot more money spent on them than the kids in my district but they get forced to go to schools that aren’t providing them the tools and knowledge necessary for them to graduate. It’s immoral and shameful. And there was no contrition from the leadership that is forced the policies that I’m talking about on these young kids that are forced to go to these failing schools. Getting shot at by the bus stops as they are trying to get to school. Or these families forced to find places to get food because local business and others have fled the state due to the anarchy.”
State Representative Blaine Wilhour didn’t like Johnson’s excuses for the young people wreaking havoc on the city.
“Makes excuses for them. They shouldn’t be criticized. They shouldn’t be held to account because they can’t help it. They’ve been starved of opportunities in their own communities as he said. And you know the folks up here from our parts of the state, we can empathize with that. Terrible policy from people like Brandon Johnson and the folks that supported him have starved our communities in our part of the state of opportunities for generations. Because of them all of our good jobs, or a lot, too many have left. Radical bought and paid for Democratic policies have starved this state of opportunity.”
State Senator Terry Bryant liked Johnson’s plan to hire 200 new detectives to try and help the crime problem, but was disturbed by his call for more money for Chicago schools. She feels the currently funding is fair to everyone and Chicago has already got to double dip.
