On what has been the best day weather-wise in the track season, the sophomore and freshmen T&F Wildcats traveled to Highland for the Highland F/S Invite.
The field events were strong for the young Cats as Miking Ettress jumped away with a win in the long jump, with a mark of 20’ 9.75” for Salem’s lone first placed finish. Discus thrower Morgan Mickens placed 2nd with a personal best of 132’8” and teammate Darrell Kaufman was 6th with a personal best of 100’ 10”. Austn Woolridge picked up the 3rd place medal in the high jump with a clear of 5’6.
Hurdler Carson Huggins earned a medal with a 6th place finish in the 110 hurdles, while Ettress was 4th in the 200 meter dash and Angel Salgado was 7th in the 200 meters. Distance runners Robbie Shober in the 1600M and Hunter Malan in the 3200 meter picked up 7th place spots.
The meet was non scored but featured some of the top F/S from the metro area, a note from the meet the 100 meters was won by sophomore Darren Wilson of Edwardsville in a time of 10.79 seconds.
The Varsity Wildcats return to action at the Military Classic hosted by Mascoutah High School on Friday April the 14th.
The Salem Lady Wildcats placed 3rd behind Nashville and Mt Vernon in an 8 team invitational Wednesday.
The Lady Cats took first and second in the high jump with Gracy Alli taking first and Finlay Puricelli taking second. Ruthie Hays was second in the pole vault, Puricelli 2nd in the 400 meter, Mollie Walker 2nd in the shot put and Hannah Smith second in the discus. Maci Thorsen second in the 3200 meet and 6th in the 1600 meter. Aila Laird 5th in the 800 and Addi Bullard 5th in the 100 meter hurdles.
The Lady Cats compete next Wednesday at Mascoutah.
