The Centralia City Council has approved the use of the South Central Illinois Regional Planning Commission to help in their request to extend the life of the downtown tax increment financing district.
The TIF is currently sent to expire in June 2026, but City Manager Kory Smith feels it’s important that it stays in place.
“We are wanting to revitalize downtown. And with this TIF it shows developers we are on the right track to help promote and assist whenever it’s possible. So getting ahead of the curb with that extension will be used in that manner.”
Smith says the work will include obtaining the support of the taxing districts and legislators.
Centralia joined the city of Salem in approving a mutual aid agreement between the two cities and Marion County to assist each other in investigations of major cases or when additional manpower is needed. The Marion County Board will be asked to approve the agreement at its Tuesday night meeting.
The council approved the low bid of T and L Contracting to replace damaged sections of sidewalks in the 100 blocks of South Locust and East Broadway and the 200 and 300 blocks of East Broadway. Colored brick paving will be replaced with four inch stenciled concrete.
A low bids was accepted to purchase two zero turn lawn mowers from Outdoor Power Sales and Service for $22,650. Bids were waived before a trailer was purchased from Kapp Trailer Sales and Service for purchase of a trailer for the public works department.
The council awarded a bid to complete the 2022 audit to CJ Schlosser and Company.
