A former Worship Minister at the Calumet Street Christian Church in Centralia is being held in the Marion County Jail after his probation was revoked on five counts of child pornography.

41-year-old Ian Maphet pleaded guilty to the petition to revoke his probation in Marion County Court on Wednesday.   Judge Ericka Sanders then revoked his pretrial release, sending Maphet to jail to await the June 23rd sentencing.

Maphet admitted to violating his probation for using the internet to connect to two dating sites.   Provisions of his original sentence of four years probation allowed him to only use the internet to try and obtain employment.

Maphet had been allowed to move to Georgia where he was served with the warrant on the petition to revoke his probation last December.  He had pleaded guilty to the five child pornography charges in May.  Maphet was first arrested in October 2023 following an investigation by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force that picked up child pornography activity in the Centralia area.  He was terminated at the church after they reviewed the initial evidence with State Police.

State’s Attorney Tim Hudspeth noted when Judge Mark Kelley gave Maphet probation he warned him that he would likely go to prison with any violations. Hudspeth says he’ll be asking for that prison time at the June sentencing hearing.

Public Defender Craig Griffin has filed a motion asking the judge to reconsider the order keeping Maphet in jail until the sentencing hearing.  It will be heard on May 13th at 1 pm.
