Salem City Manager Lisa Peck has announced the appointment of Tyler Rose as the next Chief of Police for the Salem Police Department. The appointment takes effect immediately.

Peck says Chief Rose brings nearly a decade of experience with the Salem Police Department, most recently serving as Deputy Chief since January 2025. During his tenure, he has held several specialized assignments, including service with the Child Death Investigation Task Force, the South Central Illinois Special Response Team, and Internal Affairs. He has participated in SWAT operations and holds multiple instructor certifications in defensive tactics, arrest and control techniques, and use-of-force training. His credentials include certifications in PPCT, Integrated Force Options, L.O.C.K.U.P., and de-escalation strategies.

Peck says throughout his career, Chief Rose has demonstrated a strong commitment to public safety, professionalism, and community-oriented policing. He graduated summa cum laude from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice. Rose is also a recent graduate of the Northwestern Center for Public Safety’s School of Police Staff and Command, a nationally recognized leadership and management program for law enforcement professionals.

“Tyler has earned the respect of both the department and the community through his dedication, leadership, and steady approach to policing,” said City Manager Lisa Peck. “His experience, work ethic, and commitment to the City of Salem make him the right choice to lead the department into the future.”

Mayor Nic Farley also praised the appointment. “Chief Rose has shown a deep commitment to the City of Salem and to the men and women of the police department,” said Mayor Farley. “He understands our community, has built strong relationships throughout the city, and continues to grow as a leader. I’m confident he will do an outstanding job serving the citizens of Salem as our next Chief of Police.”
