A 52-year-old Salem woman escaped with only minor injuries late Monday morning when she missed the ramp and her SUV dropped six feet to a concrete driveway at the former Jiffy’s south plant off the 900 block of East Main in Salem.
Salem Police identify the driver of the vehicle as Marjorie Woodward of East Olive Street. They are unclear why Woodward had driven up the ramp of the building now used for storage units.
Salem Fire Protection District was called to the scene to help free Woodward from the vehicle. Assistant Fire Chief Bill Fulton says her vehicle ended up on the passenger side after falling onto the concrete drive for a dug out entrance to the building. Apparently as Woodward slid from the driver’s seat to the passenger side her foot broke out the passenger side window and her foot became stuck under the vehicle.
Firemen used stabilizer jacks and air packs to raise the SUV enough to allow Woodward’s foot to be freed. They then opened the back hatch to allow her to crawl out.
Woodward was checked by emergency medical personnel, but declined hospital treatment.
The vehicle was believed to have been totaled in the mishap.
