COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Marion and most surrounding counties

The Centers for Disease Control COVID-19 tracker shows the number of positive cases continues to go up in most of South Central Illinois.

Marion County saw another increase of over four percent, with 783 cases reported for the week ending last Friday.  2,105 people per 100,000 in the county are currently positive with COVID-19.   There were 20 new hospital admissions in the past week.   The CDC reports 51-percent of those five and over in Marion County have had at least one vaccine and 47-percent have had two shots.

Jefferson County had a ten-percent increase in cases to 709.   There are currently 1,881 positive cases per 100,000 people.  There were 11 new hospitalizations for the week ending Friday.

Clinton County saw the biggest decline in cases for the week.   708 new cases were reported, down 31-percent from last Friday.  there were three new hospitalizations.

Washington County is reporting a half-percent in positive cases with 211 positive cases reported last week.   The number of residents with COVID-19 is placed at 1,519 per 100,000 people.  There were two new hospitalizations.

Fayette County is reporting 18 percent more cases with 485 recorded for the week ending Friday.  There were 20 new hospitalizations.   The number of residents with COVID is placed at 2,273 per 100,000 people.

Clay County reported a two percent decline in cases to 253.  The percent of positivity in the county is at 1,919 people per 100,000 population.  There were seven new hospitalizations.

Wayne County reported a 37-percent increase in cases to 419.  The county’s number of positive cases per 100,000 is 2,584.  There were three new hospitalizations.

The entire state remains at the high level, which begins at 100 cases per 100,000 many times lower than the current rates being seen in South Central Illinois.
