Salem Library to offer “whodunit” murder mystery kit free of charge

Looking for something to do on a cold winter’s evening?

Bryan-Bennett Library has kits for groups that like to solve good old- fashioned murder mysteries.

Library Director Kim Keller says you can get the family together or a group of friends and enjoy investigating clues that eliminate suspects in the fictitious murder of the library director.

Adults can pick up a copy of the “whodunit” kit that is available at the Library’s circulation desk. This item is a giveaway and can be taken home.

You don’t have to have a library card to get a copy of the activity.

The mystery was designed to be solved in 1-2 hours. The text was created to challenge your sleuthing skills. It has coroner reports, crime scene photos and suspect photos, which are key to solving the case.

Keller says they didn’t create the wheel on this activity. The library’s Program Director Karen Shanafelt noticed that it had a lot of traction in another community and thought she’d give our patrons a chance for this type of fun.

There’s a survey at the end story that, when taken, will provide feedback to Bryan-Bennett staff.

If enough people enjoy the activity, they may come up with another mystery to solve.
