Marion County Clerk Steve Fox says the first day for candidates to pick up packets for county offices open in the June primary election is Wednesday.

They will be available in room 202 of the Marion County Courthouse.

Fox notes all 15 county board seats, as well as County Clerk and Recorder, County Treasurer, County Sheriff, and all precinct committee positions, will be open for election.

Petitions for office need to be filed between March 7th and March 14th. The primary election this year is on June 28th.

Fox says a lot of work has been underway getting ready for candidates to pick up their petitions following the 2020 US Census and changes approved by the county board.

“The combining of the precincts they approved, just a few voters in the Centralia area, we need to make those moves.  We also have to work on the mapping that is done for the precincts and the board districts as a whole.  Work with the County Assessors office and Mark Miller to get maps put together and printed.”

Fox says voters will be informed of any changes affecting them when new registration cards are sent out.

“Had changes in the state in our area anyway all of your House, Senate and Congress District numbers have changed.  Everything on the voter’s card needs to be updated.  So we will do a new release of voters registration cards for all voters and hopefully get those out by the end of January.”

Fox says the mailing will also serve as a way to purge those on the voter rolls who no longer live at their registered address. While Marion County will have 11 fewer precincts, most voters will still vote in the same place.

Marion County will still have five county board districts with only one minor change in boundaries impacting about 160 voters on the eastside of Raccoon Lake in Centralia Township
