Wildcats Win 2 On Saturday, Finish 5th At Capital Classic….Bee Named All Tournament

The Salem Wildcats finished off the Capital Classic with a pair of wins on Saturday.  In the first game of the day, Salem knocked off Lawrenceville 48-33.  It was Coach Pete Colclasure’s first win as a head coach so congratulations to coach.  Salem then played in the 5th place game and dismantled Edwards County 75-34.  The Wildcats are 2-2 and will host Newton, who won the Cumberland Championship over the weekend on Tuesday night at B.E. Gum on WJBD.

Olney won the championship over Fairfield 50-44, Mt Carmel 62-38 over Marshall for 3rd place and in the 7th place game it was Lawrenceville over Red Hill 66-40.

Olney’s Chase Travis was named Tournament MVP.  Also on the all-tournament team was Salem’s Caden Bee, Drew Blank of Olney, Dylan Best of Fairfield, Dylan Rhodes of Edwards County, Gage Kennard of Mt Carmel, Er4ic Rodgers of Fairfield, Zach Allen of Mt Carmel, Dawson Brown of Olney, Leyton Ivers of Lawrenceville and Nick Brown of Marshall.

Centralia won the Roxana Hoopsgiving Tournament beating Gateway Legacy in the title game 44-32.  It was also win #2300 for the nations winningest high school team, the Orphans.  Jerseyville took 3rd place beating Carbondale 41-40.  Marquette took 5th place over St Louis KIPP 68-32.  Southwestern beat Wood River 53-44 for 7th place.

The Carlyle Kaskaskian started on Saturday with Hillsboro beating Woodlawn 57-42, Pinckneyville 52-31 over Okawville, Greenville nipped Nokomis 44-42 and Flora over Carlyle 47-33.  The tournament continues today with Flora and Hillsboro at 6 followed by Greenville and Pinckneyville.

Tonight is the opening night of the DuQuoin Tip-Off Classic.  Cairo and West Frankfort open the night at 5:30 followed by DuQuoin and Carmi.

The Goreville Invitational tips off tonight as well.  Hamilton County takes on Anna at 5:30 followed by Benton and Johnston City and then Hardin County and Goreville.

The Trico-Murphysboro Tournament also opens tonight.  At Murphysboro, Lovejoy and Harrisburg are at 5:30 followed by Murphysboro and Chester.   At Trico the night begins with Trico and Sparta followed by Steeleville and Carterville.

Christopher won their own tournament title on Saturday night knocking off Wayne City 44-31 in the title game.  NCOE beat Webber for 3rd place 50-46.  New Athens won the consolation title beating Waltonville 54-35.  Thompsonville was the 7th place winner over Zeigler 70-59.

At Cumberland, Newton won the title over Casey 46-42.  Cumberland beat North Clay in the 3rd place game 48-40.  Okaw Valley won the consolation title over Vandalia 64-61.  Dieterich is the 7th place winner over OPH 63-47.

At St Anthony, Breese Central beat Teutopolis in the championship 32-29.  Mattoon beat Effingham 54-40 in the 3rd place game.  Robinson hit a buzzer beater in overtime to beat Highland 62-60 for 5th place and in the 7th place game in overtime it was St Anthony over Rantoul 62-58.

Crab Orchard won the Elverado Tournament beating the JV from DuQuoin 67-47.  Sandoval fell to Elverado in the 3rd place game 53-31.  Galatia beat Agape Christian 72-63 in the consolation title game.  And in the7th place game, Egyptian beat Dongola 65-41.

At the Mulberry Grove Tournament, St Elmo/Brownstown won the title over Father McGivney75-53, CHBC over Mount Olive 61-57 in the 3rd place game.  Patoka/Odin beat Mulberry Grove 44-35 in the 5th place game and Ramsey over Lebanon 44-36 in the 7th place game.

At the Wesclin/Mascoutah Tip Off, Columbia beat Wesclin 51-37 and Mascoutah over Nashville 60-45.
