The Salem Wildcats dropped both games to open up their pool at the 32nd annual Capital Classic in Lawrenceville. Salem opened the day with a 71-68 triple overtime loss to Marshall. Caden Bee finished with 31 for Salem including a bucket at the buzzer at the end of the first overtime. Brendan Phillips added 18 and Charlie Fehrenbacher finished with 12. The Cats shot just 10-of-22 from the foul line in the loss while Marshall hit 10 three’s in the first half, and 13 in the game. Salem’s Rolen Adams also left the game early with a busted nose and is not expected to play for the next week or two.
Salem then came back last night to play Fairfield, and the Cats led 21-19 at the halftime break, but the Mules outscored the Cats 13-4 in the final quarter to grab the 46-31 win. Bee led Salem with 11 and Phillips put in 8. The Cats return to tournament play today with an 11:30 game against Lawrenceville.
Also at Lawrenceville it was Fairfield beating Lawrenceville 61-41and Marshall lost to Lawrenceville 53-42. At the Red Hill site, Mt Carmel beat Red Hill 61-39, Olney o9ver Edwards County70-35, Edwards County beat Red Hill 60-58 and Olney over Mt Carmel 68-47.
Today the Carlyle Kaskaskian Classic opens up. The day begins at 3pm with Hillsboro ad Woodlawn followed by Pinckneyville and Okawville at 4:30, Nokomis and Greenville at 6pm and then Carlyle and Flora at 7:30.
Yesterday at the Christopher Tournament Waltonville beat Zeigler 69-46 in the consolation semifinal and Webber lost to Wayne City on the championship side 61-54. The day finishes up today starting with the 7th place game between Zeigler and Thompsonville at 2pm, then the consolation championship at 3:30 with New Athens and Waltonville. NCOE will take on Webber at 5:15 for 3rd place and then the championship will be at 7pm featuring Christopher and Wayne City.
At Cumberland it was Okaw Valley over OPH 67-30, Vandalia nipped Dieterich 61-60, Casey over North Clay 54-34 and Newton beat Cumberland 70-37. Today the 7th place game at 1:30 features Dieterich and OPH followed by the Consolation title game at 3 with Okaw Valley and Vandalia. Then the 3rd place game at 4:30 with North Clay and Cumberland will be followed by the title game with Casey and Newton.
At Metro East Lutheran it was a very exciting final day. The day began with Lovejoy beating Dupo 60-37 in the 7th place game. Then Myles Pryor hit a 3 at the buzzer in overtime for Christ Our Rock in their win over Marissa 62-59. Following that, Jackson Swann hit a stick back at the buzzer to give Mt Vernon a 46-44 win over Mater Dei in the 3rd place game. Lift for Life beat Metro East Lutheran for the title 80-48.
At St Anthony, Breese Central beat Robinson 45-40, TTown over Mattoon 43-34, Highland over Rantoul 52-48 and St Anthony lost to Effingham 48-30. The tournament finishes today. St Anthony and Rantoul play for 7th place at 3, Robinson and Highland for 5th place at 4:30, Effingham and Mattoon for 3rd place at 6 and then Breese Central and TTown renew their rivalry for the title game at 7:30.
At Elverado yesterday, Agape Christian beat Dongola 62-42, Crab Orchard over Elverado 74-42 and DuQuoin’s JV beat Sandoval 83-78. The 7th place game this morning at 11:30 will see Dongola and Egyptian, Galatia and Agape in the consolation title game at 1, Elveardo and Sandoval will play at 2:30 for 3rd place and the title game today is at 4pm and then Crab Orchard will play the DuQuoin JV.
At Mulberry Grove yesterday, Patoka/Odin beat Ramsey 74-39, McGivney over CHBC 61-48, St Elmo routed Mulberry Grove 63-28. The tournament finishes today with Lebanon and Ramsey in the 7th place game at 1:30 followed at 3 by Mulberry Grove and Patoka/Odin for 5th, then Mount Olive and CHBC for 3rd at 4:30 before St Elmo plays McGivney for the title at 6pm.
The Centralia Orphans will play for the Roxana Hoopsgiving Title today after beating Jerseyville 59-18 in the semifinal. They will play Gateway legacy who knocked off Carbondale 58-47. The Orphans will play at 7pm tonight.
At Waterloo, Litchfield over Valmeyer 84-55, Gibault beat Waterloo 52-41. Today it’s Valmeyer and Gibault at 6 followed by Freeburg and Litchfield at 7:30.
At Wesclin, Mascoutah beat Columbia 58-40, Wesclin over Staunton 63-38. The tournament finishes today with Wesclin taking on Columbia followed by Nashville and Mascoutah.
