NASSAU, Bahamas (AP) — Hakim Hart scored 19 of his season-high 24 points in the second half, Eric Ayala added 20 points, nine rebounds and five assists, and Maryland rallied to beat Richmond 86-80 at the Baha Mar Hoops Bahamas Championship. Fatts Russell had 15 points — 11 in the second half — and six assists and Qudus Wahab scored 13 points for Maryland. Grant Golden led Richmond with 18 points, six rebounds and five assists. Nick Sherod and Jacob Gilyard scored 14 points apiece and Tyler Burton, who went into the contest averaging 19.8 points per game, added 11.
UNDATED (AP) — No. 2 Ohio State visits No. 6 Michigan on Saturday for a game with stakes fitting for a late November showdown between top-10 teams. The winner goes to the Big Ten championship game in Indianapolis next week and is the conference’s front-runner for a spot in the College Football Playoff. The Buckeyes haven’t lost to Michigan since 2011. Michigan State visits Penn State in bounce-back mode after getting hammered at Ohio State last week. Iowa looks to beat Nebraska for a seventh straight time Friday.
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — No. 17 Iowa visits Nebraska on Friday looking to stay alive in the Big Ten West for another day. The Hawkeyes must win and then have Wisconsin lose at Minnesota on Saturday to reach the conference championship game. The Cornhuskers have lost six straight against Iowa and are trying to break through after losing eight games by a total of 49 points this season. Nebraska will be without quarterback Adrian Martinez. He injured his shoulder last week at Wisconsin. Redshirt freshman Logan Smothers will make his first start.
NASSAU, Bahamas (AP) — Elissa Cunane scored 20 points, making eight of her nine shots from the field, to help No. 5 N.C. State run past second-ranked Maryland 78-60 at the Baha Mar Hoops Pink Flamingo Championship tournament. Diamond Johnson added 17 points, eight rebounds, five assists and four steals for the Wolfpack. The game was played at the Baha Mar resort in the Bahamas in a converted ballroom complete with a low ceiling and a raised stage right off midcourt. There were high school-style bleachers behind the two benches for fans. Angel Reese scored a career-high 24 points to lead Maryland.
NASSAU, Bahamas (AP) — Cameron Brink had 21 points, 22 rebounds and five blocks to help seventh-ranked Stanford edge No. 4 Indiana 69-66 at the Baha Mar Hoops Pink Flamingo Championship tournament. Brink also added five assists for the Cardinal and made one of two free throws with 6.8 seconds left to make it a three-point game. Indiana had one last chance but Ali Patberg’s 3-pointer was off the mark. Patberg led the Hoosiers with 19 points.
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Kirsten Deans scored 12 points with six assists, 10 of 11 Mountaineers scored and No. 22-ranked West Virginia held off a tough challenge from Purdue, 65-57 at the St. Pete Showcase. Purdue, under former Seattle Storm guard and two-time NAIA coach of the year Katie Gearlds, stayed within eight points of West Virginia for most of the game and drained 10 3-pointers. A’riana Gray scored 10 for West Virginia (4-0) and Madisen Smith, Jasmine Carson and Samuel each scored eight. Purdue was led by Brooke Moore’s 13 points and 12 from Cassidy Hardin, who made four 3-pointers. West Virginia hadn’t scored fewer than 78 points this season.
BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — The relaxed transfer rules approved by the NCAA in the spring has led to some quick fixes and fast turnarounds for numerous men’s basketball programs. Several schools added a handful of transfers from power conferences to jump-start their rebuilding. Among them are the New Mexico Lobos, who are 4-1 thanks to a foursome of transfers, and Iowa State. The Cyclones are 5-0 this year after going 2-22 last season. Others that have capitalized on the new transfer rule are the Texas Longhorns, the Grand Canyon Antelopes, the TCU Horned Frogs and the Texas A&M Aggies.
