A tornado in a Chicago suburb earlier this month led to the deployment of the Ameren Illinois Midwest Mutual Assistance Network.

Mobile crews of Ameren lineman from across the state were deployed to help with downed power lines, power poles and to restore electricity across the affected areas.

Riley Adams from Ameren Illinois says the program takes crews across the state and even across the Midwest to restore safe electricity to affected areas as quickly as possible.

“We are one of 7 Midwest Mutual Assistance Groups in the U.S.  And our group has boundaries from Minnesota to Colorado, to Texas on the south and Ohio on the east.  And there are 36 communities that have joined together so if we do have damage in excess of our capability to fight within a reasonable time frame, that we can call on those other people to provide resources, lineman and support groups to shorten the length of the restoration.”

Adams says that the Midwest Mutual Assistance Network is an urgently important network and is one of seven of its kind across the country.
