Odin Firemen wrap up putting out a grass fire that spread to just under an acre of ground Wednesday afternoon in the Royal Lakes area south of Odin.

Both the Salem and Odin Fire Departments fought separate brush fires that were spread by the wind and extremely dry conditions.

Salem Firemen were called to the Nancy Sattertwite-Bauerle property at 2840 Route 37 South near Cross Road Wednesday afternoon where a brush fire had been started near a 30 by 50-foot pole barn shed.  Firemen were able to keep the fire from spreading to the building.   The fire was confined to a small area.

Odin Firemen were called to the Larry Foutch property in the 2700 block of Queens Avenue in Royal Lake south of Odin.  Fire Chief Greg Smith says the property owner was burning a brush pile when the fire began to spread away from the pile due to the extremely dry conditions and wind gust.  Less than an acre burned.  There were no injuries and no structure was involved.  The fire call came in around three Wednesday afternoon.

Salem Firemen were called at 9:30 Wednesday night to the James Payne home at 315 Indiana to assist in extinguishing a brush pile.  The fire was not threatening any buildings.
