The Salem City Council Monday night is scheduled to discuss ending talk of selling Edith Kell Park.
The council took no action but asked for additional time to consider the property when coming out of an earlier closed session to discuss the possible surplusing of the property. City Manager Rex Barbee says several residents have objected to the idea of selling the property for the development of a mobile home park and would like to see the proposal dropped.
The council will consider an increase in the cost to purchase bulk water from the city. The former rate of 25-cents for 80 gallons of water will jump to $1.00. Bulk water users will also be able to purchase 1,000 gallons for $12.50.
The council will consider allowing the Historic Farmer’s Market behind Becky Timmerman’s Benjamin Edward’s office to expand to the city parking lot on the southwest corner of West McMackin and South Walnut Street if more space is needed.
The council will get an update on the Smithsonian exhibit ‘Voices and Votes’ that will be coming to the Bryan Bennett Library later this year.
The meeting begins at six Monday night at Salem City Hall.
