The Salem High School Board Monday night listened to a presentation from former Soccer Coach Orlando Ramos on the need to better compensate the boys and girls soccer coaches.
Ramos wants soccer moved up to a tier two sport that would allow for just over a $1,000 a year increase.
He also feels of the coaches should also be given an assistant.
“When you are doing all of this planning and preparing it’s much better to have two minds to get involved in a game plan and to troubleshoot during games than one mind. During practices, you can be more effective if you can break the team down into groups to run different drills.”
Each assistant would cost the district about $2,300 a year.
The issue was not on the agenda, so no vote could be taken. It is expected to be addressed at the July meeting.
Meanwhile, Superintendent Brad Detering says no candidates have come forward to take the open boys soccer coaching position. He feels they will have a coach by the time the fall season arrives.
