For the second year in a row, Doctor’s Nursing and Rehabilitation in Salem has raised $5,000 for the fight against Alzheimer’s Disease.

The money was raised during a golf tournament earlier this month.

Liz Logue was one of the co-organizers for the second annual event.

“We had an absolute blast.  We ended up losing a few teams because we had to change the dates of it.  But when it was all said and done every team out there came to support a terrific fundraiser.  They came out with smiles on their faces and money in their pockets.  They helped with the silent auction and bought donations for the meat raffle.  Everything we had people was there to back us.”

The other co-organizer Linda Poninski says the event was organized because of the impact of Alzheimer’s Disease.

“Have either a memory of or working with someone in our families who had/have Alzheimer’s so it’s near and dear to our heart.  And we deal with that a lot here at Doctor’s Nursing and Rehab so it is just something we are very aware of and want that awareness to be greater.”

After four teams had to drop out due to the original date being rained out, 19 participated.

Kati Hoffman is the Walk Manager for the South Central Illinois Walk that will be held at Kaskaskia College on September 17th. She says their overall goal has been set at $47,000.
