Clinton-Jefferson-Marion and Washington Counties has a new Regional Superintendent of Schools.
John Consolino of Salem is excited to replace the retiring Matt Renaud. Consolino has already won the Republican Primary unopposed and has no Democratic opposition in the November General Election.
Consolino says after serving five years as Assistant Regional Superintendent of Education, this felt like a natural progression. If elected in November, his new term will begin on July first of next year.
Consolino’s job is to provide assistance to both public and private schools through the four county region.
“Focused on high quality supports and creating impacts for students, because in the end those students are who we are here for. Whether that’s means providing professional development, professional learning for the professionals that work tin that building, or providing very localized services to those children to get them the best education we can. That’s what we are here for is those kids.”
Consolino will also be trying to help school districts with a growing problem involving freedom of information requests.
“School districts are getting inundated with those FOIA requests on a weekly basis. That is something that moving forward, we will be working with school districts to help them facilitate making sure that we are transparent for the people that we serve. At the same time, what is the best avenue we can provide that information to the people that are making those requests. We have certainly seen a huge uptake in requests to school districts.”
Consolino says it’s to the point some districts are looking at hiring an additional person to deal with all the requests.
