A Sandoval home was damaged in an early morning attic fire.

Sandoval Fire Chief Chad Parson says smoke was seen coming from the attic by a Marion County Sheriff’s Deputy who had responded to an unclear call for assistance.

The lone occupant, Norma Marcum, was out of the home upon their arrival and declined any medical attention.

Firemen cut a hole in the roof and removed ceiling tile to attack the fire.   Parson says once the attic had been opened up, there were visible flames.

The fire was confined to the attic and blown-in insulation, but there was some water and smoke damage to the living area.

Parson says the fire appears to be electrical in nature.   A State Deputy Fire Marshal found nothing suspicious.

Sandoval first responded with a fire truck and ambulance from their station, with a second truck coming back from the fire at the Orphan Smokehouse in Centralia.   Odin Firemen and the Centralia Fire Protection Districts responded on automatic mutual aid with personnel at their station that had not responded to the Centralia Fire.   Salem Firemen provided extra help as they came to the scene after being released from the Centralia Fire.

The fire call came in at 4:24 Friday morning.  Firemen were on the scene until 6:30 Friday morning.
