Marion County Fair Board President Doug Telford is pleased with all the events and the crowds at this year’s county fair that wrapped up Saturday night.
Telford is thanking everyone who came out to support the fair and its vendors.
“I think every night was a good night,” Telford said. “I felt we had a very good lineup for the week to cover all different interests of our community. The fair board members work together; they work hard before the fair and during the fair. It’s countless volunteer hours. I think this week has been very successful.”
Telford is pleased with changes made in the demolition derby that may have led to a record crowd and a complete sellout of the grandstand.
“I don’t know if it was a record crowd or not, but it was a very large crowd here to watch that demo derby. The youth class really sparked a lot of interest for the next generation of derby drivers, and it was really fun to watch.”
For the first time, those 10 to 16 had their own heat in the demolition derby, with a parent or adult riding with them. He says bringing in the new rodeo on Wednesday night was a success along with the Fair Queen and Junior Miss competitions that once again blew it out of the park. Telford also commended those putting on the Motocross for putting together a good show after a heavy rainstorm hit just before the event was supposed to start. He noted even on Thursday night when the grandstand event was cancelled due to the heavy rains earlier that day, there was still a good attendance that night in the midway and vendor areas.
Telford says they will begin planning for the fair shortly as the event is nearly a year-round endeavor.
