The Salem Wildcats varsity baseball team won a pair of games against Carbondale last night.
Salem won the opening game 4-3 scoring a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the lead on an RBI single from Noah Nix. Salem got 3 runs in the 3rd inning to erase a 2-0 deficit on a home run from Josh Powless. Griffin Day was the winning pitcher going all seven innings allowing 3 runs on 4 hits with 8 strikeouts. Isaak Williams singled and scored, Gavin Zimmermann added a hit with Aden Susmena and Jalen Inlow scoring runs.
Salem’s offense exploded in Game two plating 17 runs in just 4 innings of a 17-4 win. Brogan Gregg drove in runs on a single in the first, triple in the third and another hit in the 4th as he finished with 5 RBI. Salem scored 8 runs in that third inning thanks to RBI from Kameron Wilkins, Nix, Zimmermann, Day, Gregg and Isaak Williams. Drew Davis was the winning pitcher allowing 2 hits and 4 runs over 2.2 innings. Nix threw 2.1 innings out of the bullpen.
