After spending one week on the medium-risk level for COVID-19, Marion County dropped back to the low level when new weekly results were released on Friday.
The CDC COVID tracker is reporting 36 new cases in Marion County for the past week along with two new hospitalizations. Marion County Health Department Administrator Melissa Mallow reported no additional deaths. One congregate-care facility remains on outbreak status for the third week, meaning at least two related cases have been reported.
Meanwhile, Clinton County went the opposite direction from low to medium as the number of cases increased by 67-percent to 80 new or probable cases. The county also reported three new hospitalizations. Clinton County joins St. Clair, Madison, and Bond Counties in the Metro-East in the medium category. They are among 31 counties in the medium category.
The rest of South Central Illinois remains in the low category. Jefferson County saw cases rise 25-percent to 31 with two new hospitalizations. Washington County had 12 new cases and one new hospitalization. Fayette County reported a 52-percent increase in cases to 32 with no new hospitalizations. Clay County had 18 new cases and no new hospitalization. Wayne County had 11 new cases and one new hospitalization.
The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 32,605 cases statewide and 47 additional deaths.
There are now 19 counties at the high community level. They include Chicago, Cook County, and surrounding counties in Northeastern Illinois as well as counties around Bloomington, Peoria, and Springfield.
As of Thursday night, there were 1,227 individuals in Illinois reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those 14 patients were in the ICU and 35 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.
