The girls state track meet was held over the weekend at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.
It was a great weekend for Altamont sophomore Grace Nelson in Class 1a. She finished 3rd in the 200m, 2nd in the 300m hurdles and was the state champion in the 100m hurdles.
Mater Dei’s Alexis Kampwerth finished 19th overall and Christ Our Rock’s Rylee Brammeier was 25th in a PR time in the 3200m. Nashville’s Halle Rueter was 8th. The Nashville 4x100m relay team of Shelby Thorsen, Emma VanHise, Talanie Kozuszek and Rueter was 3rd. Nashville was also 3rd in the 4×200 with Thorson, Kozuszek, Rueter and Paityn Matecki. Nashville’s Alyssa Cole was 6th in the discus, Brownstown/St Elmo’s Addie McWhorter tied for 6th in the high jump and St Anthony’s Allison Geen was 11th.
In Class 2a, Althoff’s Alaina Lester was 5th in the 100m and 4th in the 200, Mt Vernon’s Ja Breah Liddell made the finals in the 400m, Olney’s Tatum David was the state champion in the 1600 in a PR time of 4:47.52. She also won the 3200 in a PR time of 10:04.02. Mt Vernon’s 4×100 relay was 2nd including Tiara Johnson, Liddell, Saryah Dixon and Kamaree Pollard. In the shot put, Carbondale’s Madyson Swope was 2nd, Maryiah Menicucci of Marion was 3rd and Josie Hapack of Highland 4th. Swope then won the discus with Hapack 3rd, Menicucci 8th. Breese Central’s Morgan Ahle was 10th in the high jump, Triad’s Morgan Noyes 12th in the pole vault. Columbia’s Abby Venhaus and Bailey Williams of Marion was 4th and 6th in the long jump. In the triple jump, Karli Mann of Herrin was 3rd, Althoff’s Alaina Lester 4th, Vehaus of Columbia was 6th and Centralia’s Kylie Gorman finished 7th.
