The SC Lady Cougars are regional champions after knocking off Altamont at Webster Field in Kinmundy 7-1. Taegan Webster was the winning pitcher going all 7 innings, allowing 3 hits and 1 run with 6 strikeouts. At the plate, she singled, doubled and drove in 4, Brooklyn Garrett singled along with Halle Smith, Lilly Malone singled home a run Kaitlyn swift had 2 hits including a triple and RBI, Ella Watwood singled. SC is 24-10 and will travel to the Casey Westfield Sectional on Tuesday to take on the host Lady Warriors.
Also in 1a regional championship games Casey Westfield beat Central A&M at Toledo 10-0, Edwards County 4-2 winners over Grayville at Wayne City and Okawville beat Carlyle 6-4 at Christ Our Rock. In regional semifinals at Bunker Hill, Nokomis beat Mulberry Grove 5-2.
Today in 1a regional championships it’s Carrollton and Nokomis at Bunker Hill, Marissa plays Valmeyer at Dupo, Woodlawn takes on Waltonville at Galatia and at Oblong it’s Windsor and Hutsonville.
Tully Park was the site for the 2a regional finals yesterday that saw top-seed Gillespie beat Robinson 3-0 to advance to Sectionals. Carterville nipped Johnston City 2-0 at Johnston City, Nashville lost at home to visiting Murphysboro 17-7 in five innings and in regional semifinals at Vandalia, Staunton shutout Greenville 6-0. And at Marquette it was Freeburg winning the title, beating Alton Marquette 10-0 in five innings.
Today in regional finals at Breese Central, the hosts Lady Cougars take on rival Mater Dei, Pinckneyville hosts Zeigler, St Anthony and Paris play from St Joseph Ogden and at Vandalia today at 11am it’s Newton and Staunton.
