A collector of classic books will discuss his hobby and how the series have influenced American culture during a presentation at the Bryan-Bennett Library at six Thursday night.
David Baumann has been a resident of Salem since 2014, but served as an Episcopal priest for 48 years, 39 of them in the Diocese of Los Angeles. He is now retired. For the last several years he has served as part-time priest in charge of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Salem and St. John’s in Centralia.
Baumann has spent three decades gathering a collection of classic children’s books. They include Tom Swift, The Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew, and Their Friends.
There will be handouts of information for those interested in collecting. Baumann will also discuss the characters and the authors who created them. Baumann will take questions from the audience. Baumann has published devotions, articles, and essays, as well as science fiction novels and short stories.
