A 23-year-old Salem woman has died from injuries sustained in a Saturday night van-car crash on North Broadway in Salem a quarter-mile south of the Tonti Road.
State Police identifies the victim as Hailey Budde.
A preliminary investigation indicates Budde was walking northbound in the southbound lane of Illinois Route 37 south of Oakwood Street when a southbound van driven by 28-year-old Courtney Gunnels of Kinmundy approached. Gunnels attempted to swerve to the east around the pedestrian but was unable to avoid a collision with the pedestrian.
Budde was transported to Salem Township Hospital.
Marion County Coroner Troy Cannon says Budde died from her injuries at 3:35 Sunday afternoon.
The crash occurred at 10:05 Saturday night.
