Large numbers of new or probable COVID-19 cases were reported again last week across South Central Illinois in numbers tabulated by the Centers for Disease Control in their tracker program.
In Marion County during the past week, 217 new cases are being reported. That’s a three-percent increase over the prior week and an infection rate of 583 cases per 100,000 people. That’s nearly six times the level of infection to be placed in the high category for number of cases. There were 38 new hospitalizations during the week.
In Clinton County, 157 new cases were reported, an eight percent increase over the prior week. The infection rate is at 418 per 100,000. There were two new hospitalizations.
In Jefferson County, there were 127 new cases for an infection rate of 337 per 100,000. That’s up eight percent from last week. There were seven new hospitalizations.
In Washington County, 52 new cases were reported for a rate of 374 per 100,000. The number of cases is up 30-percent from the prior week. There were no new hospitalizations.
In Fayette County, 126 new cases were reported, a jump of 50-percent from a week earlier. The infection rate is 591-per 100,000. There were 29 new hospitalizations.
In Clay County, 112 new cases were reported, a ten percent increase. The infection rate is 850 per 100,000. There were 14 new hospitalizations.
In Wayne County, there were 65 new cases for a rate of 401 per 100,000. That’s down 14-percent in the past week. There is one new hospitalization.
