MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Johnny Davis scored 23 points and made a go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:18 left to help No. 22 Wisconsin erase a 22-point deficit and beat Indiana 64-59 to extend its home domination in the series. Wisconsin (8-1, 1-0 Big Ten) has won 19 straight home games over Indiana, which hasn’t beaten the Badgers in Madison since a 69-59 decision on Jan. 25, 1998. Wisconsin trailed 42-20 late in the first half and was down 42-25 at the intermission, but scored the game’s final 11 points. The Badgers outscored Indiana 16-2 over the last 5:50.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Kyle Young scored 18 points, Justin Ahrens had 16 points on a career-best five 3-pointers and No. 21 Ohio State held off Towson 85-74. E.J. Liddell made all eight of his free throws and scored 15 points for Ohio State, and Zed Key added 13 points for the Buckeyes, who have beaten two unranked opponents since knocking off then-No. 1 Duke last week. It was a strong shooting night all around for Ohio State, which shot 57.4% from the field, 43.5% from 3-point range and 84% from the free-throw line. Young went 6 of 7 from the field and Key was 5 for 6. Jason Gibson scored 19 points to lead Towson.
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Mark Whipple is Nebraska’s new offensive coordinator. His hiring was announced a day after he resigned from the same position at Pittsburgh. Cornhuskers coach Scott Frost also announced the hiring of Chicago Bears assistant Donovan Raiola as offensive line coach. Frost is making over his offensive staff following a 3-9 season. It was the Huskers’ worst since 1957. Former Nebraska quarterback Mickey Joseph was hired as receivers coach last week after serving in the same position at LSU. Frost is yet to name a new running backs coach.
COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — Ashley Owusu scored eight of her 20 points in the fourth quarter to push No. 8 Maryland to an 86-71 victory over Purdue. Owusu added nine rebounds and five assists for the Terrapins, who trailed by four at halftime in their final tune-up before playing at No. 1 South Carolina on Sunday. Katie Benzan and and Angel Reese each had 15 points for Maryland, which scored 34 points off 23 Purdue turnovers in its third consecutive victory. Mimi Collins and Chloe Bibby each added 12 points. Brooke Moore scored a season-high 22 points and hit six 3-pointers to lead the Boilermakers.
AMES, Iowa (AP) — The Joens sisters, Ashley and Aubrey, each had a double-double for the second game in a row and No. 15 Iowa State edged No. 12 Iowa 77-70 to end a five-game losing streak in the series. The game, a first when both were ranked in the top 15, wasn’t decided until Ashley Joens made three of four free throws in the final 15 seconds. It was billed as a battle between senior Ashley Joens, who moved up to third on the Cyclones career list with 1,888 points, and Iowa sophomore Caitlin Clark, who led the nation in scoring last season at 26.6 points. Ashley Joens, a native of Iowa City, the home of Iowa, had 26 points, 11 rebounds, a career-high tying six assists and a steal. Clark, from West DeMoines, had 26 points, seven rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block.
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (AP) — Jalen Pickett scored 16 points with four assists and Sam Sessoms made three 3-pointers, also scoring 16 points, as Penn State broke away from Wagner, 74-54, with a big second half. Six players scored at least eight points for the Nittany Lions, who broke a two-game losing streak. Though 11 players scored for Wagner only Alex Morales reached double figures with a season-low 11. John Harrar finished with 12 points and seven rebounds for Penn State, Seth Lundy added 10 points, six rebounds and three steals.
