A 26-year-old Centralia man has been sentenced to an additional two years in prison after entering a negotiated plea in Marion County Court on Tuesday for failure to return from furlough. Judge Mark Stedelin had granted the furlough to Perry Nesbitt after he had been sentenced to five years in prison in August after pleading guilty to an aggravated battery with a deadly weapon charge.

Nesbitt was arrested on an outstanding warrant on the new charge after failing to return to the Marion County Jail as ordered.

He was taken back into custody a few days later during a traffic stop in Centralia. Nesbitt had been transferred to the Illinois Department of Corrections to begin serving his five-year term before entering the guilty plea to the new charge.

In the original aggravated battery charge, Nesbitt admitted to using a metal pipe to strike a man he had been chasing in the 1300 block of South Elm in Centralia in July. The victim received multiple lacerations to his back and was treated at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia.

In the new sentence, Nesbitt was ordered to serve one year parole when getting out of prison and was given credit for 111 days already served in the Marion County Jail.
