Carolyn Louise Kemp, 79, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 1:30 am August 16, 2021 at Mt. Vernon Countryside Manor. Mrs. Kemp was a Medical Transcriptionist for Crossroads Community Hospital for fifteen years. She was of the protestant faith and will be dearly missed.
A Visitation will be held on Friday, August 20, 2021 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Graveside Service will be held Friday, August 20, 2021 at 11:30 am at IOOF Cemetery in Opdyke, Illinois with Pastor Dan Lovin officiating. Interment will follow. Carolyn is survived by her sons, John B. Kemp Jr. and Sheree Morrison of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Jim L. Kemp and Mindy Johnson of Mount Vernon, Illinois; grandchildren, Shelby Kemp of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Dalton Kemp of Ina, Illinois, Bryton Kemp and wife, Ashley of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Dustin Kemp and Morgan Lyons-Lawrence of DeWitt, Iowa; brother, Jackie Eugene Elliott and wife, Carol of Lena, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
She was born April 18, 1942 in Mount Vernon, Illinois to the late James Samuel and Irene (Caldwell) Elliott. Carolyn married John B. Kemp Sr. on March 14, 1964. They were blessed with fifty-two years of marriage before he preceded her in death on September 13, 2016. In addition to her parents and husband, Carolyn was preceded in death by her daughter, Christy Jo Kemp and sister, Joyce Mitchell.
