Barry Charles Gutzler, age 70, of Centralia, Illinois, passed away at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, August 6, 2021, at his home in Centralia, Illinois.
Mr. Gutzler was a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Centralia, Illinois. He was an avid golfer, playing through the greens while he was away from work. If he wasn’t on the golf course, being a big fan of the Saint Louis Cardinals, he would be watching a game at home or taking a game in at Busch Stadium. It was important to him to take his friends from work to an annual game to watch his favorite team play ball. People that knew him, knew him as being a great guy. Barry cherished his family, as he was a great uncle to his nephews and niece. He loved and was close to his brother, Brett. He was a devoted son, taking care of his mother after the death of his father in 1970.
Mr. Gutzler retired on July 1, 2011, after 30 years of service as an engineer associated with various departments at Scott Air Force Base. After graduation from college, he became a Licensed Professional Engineer through the State of Illinois Department of Professional Regulation. Barry graduated in August of 1973 with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale’s School of Engineering and Technology. He earlier graduated in June of 1971 with an associate degree from Kaskaskia College in Centralia, Illinois. He graduated with Centralia Township High School’s “Class of 1969,” where he was on the honor roll every semester and a member of the National Honor Society. He lived his entire life in Centralia, Illinois.
A Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Barry Charles Gutzler will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Saturday, August 14, 2021, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Centralia, Illinois with Pastor Miguel Torneire officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park near Centralia, Illinois. Friends are invited to visit with Mr. Gutzler’s family from 10:00 A.M. until the time of his service at 11:30 A.M. on Saturday, August 14, 2021, at Trinity Lutheran Church.
