Shelby L. Mitchell, 25, of Woodlawn, Illinois, passed away on July 17, 2021, in Ashley, Illinois.
Miss Mitchell had taught fifth and sixth grade at McClellen Grade School for three years and had recently accepted a position at J.L. Buford teaching fifth grade. Shelby loved being a school teacher. She loved her family and friends and beloved dog, Meredith Renea. Most of all she loved all of her nieces and nephews. Shelby was an amazing daughter, sister, aunt, fur mom, and friend. She will be greatly missed.
A Visitation will be held Thursday, July 22, 2021, from 10:00 am to 1:30 pm at Woodlawn Christian Church in Woodlawn, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 1:30 pm with Pastor James McKinzie officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois. She was born November 21, 1995, in Mount Vernon, Illinois to Brian Keith Mitchell and Tammy (Porter) Phillips.
Shelby is survived by her mother and stepfather, Tammy Phillips and Dave of Woodlawn, Illinois; sisters, Amber Deadmond and husband, Mike of Walnut Hill, Illinois, Tiffany Phillips and husband, Jake of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Brook Mitchell of Woodlawn, Illinois; brother, Jesse Phillips and special friend, Jayde McCoy of Mount Vernon, Illinois; grandparents, David and Barbara Mitchell of Woodlawn, Illinois; grandmother, Shirley Colclasure of Salem, Illinois; nieces and nephews, Colten Perchez, Madison Perchez, Hayven Cavender, Rylee Austin, Skyler Austin, Owen Phillips, Kenlee McCoy, and Kaysen McCoy; many cousins, friends, students, and many more considered as family; and her beloved fur baby, Meredith Renea.
