Centralia City Grade Schools will be following state guidelines for COVID-19 mitigation in the coming school year.

Superintendent Craig Clark says as of now, the State Board of Education is recommending anyone not vaccinated wear a mask while indoors. Those who are vaccinated do not have to wear masks. Clark says bus drivers and all students will still be required to wear masks while on school busses to and from school. He notes the state guidelines change frequently and he district will follow those changes.

Clark is pleased to see the State Board giving schools more local control over COVID-19 mitigation. The board joined a statewide effort of sending e-mails to the Governor, State Board of Health, and the State Board of Education asking them to give school district’s more control and realize not all areas of the state are in the same situation with COVID at any given time.

The board once again agreed to waive registration and book fees for all students. Clark says free lunches and breakfast will once again be made available to all students under the Federal Community Lunch Options due to the number of low income students.

The board acted on a number of personnel issues. The board hired Kristina Unverfehrt as Special Education Supervisor, Hollie Arnold as Junior High Seventh Grade Language Arts teacher, Amanda Schmidt as District Health Supervisor, Erick Hocking as Title 1 Paraprofessional at Centralia Junior High, Felicia Houser as Individual Paraprofessional at Jordan, Morena Hopkins as Marching Band Assistant, Abbey Holtkamp as Girls’ Eighth Grade Basketball Coach and Kylan Hallam as girls’ seventh grade basketball coach.

The board accepted resignations from Special Education Supervisor Kara Welch, Speech Pathologist Mollie Strain, Individual Paraprofessional Olivia Pearce, and Bus Monitor Thomas Stanfield.

The board received a letter of intent to retire from bookkeeper Rita Carpenter effective December 2022.
