Centralia City Manager Forrest Langenfeld told the Centralia City Council Monday night the city will be seeking eight grants.

He says if approved, a number of projects can move forward.

“We have what I expect to be 8 grant applications going out in the next 60 days.  Some of them are economic development projects for companies in the community.  A  couple are public parks type projects to benefit the community and of course the big one for water line replacement.”

Langenfeld says during a meeting with the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity they were encouraged to get the grant in for the replacement of a portion of the city’s raw waterline to Carlyle Lake. The agency expects considerable money to be available for infrastructure projects.

Langenfeld also announced the Illinois Department of Housing Development will begin its housing inventory survey of the city that is expected to lead to additional grant funding to improve the city’s housing stock.
