Centralia High School Superintendent Chuck Lane has joined more than 400 other superintendents in signing a letter to Governor JB Pritzker seeking COVID-19 guidance for the coming school year. Lane addressed the lack of information at Monday night’s school board meeting.

“So we were just really want to get some clarity from the state on how we’re gonna handle the COVID protocols for next year we do have the edict now that we all want to come back to full in-person schooling but we still need to get some guidelines on if we’re social distancing, do we have to wear masks, do we have to test, do we have to take temperatures, all those things so we’re already into July now so we it’s time that parents know what school’s going to look like for the kids next fall, so we’re hoping to get some clarity from state.”

The board approved its amended budget for the fiscal year that ends June 30th. Lane reports the district finished the fiscal year with a $382,736 surplus across all funds.

Lane expects to meet with the teacher’s association in the next few weeks for negotiations. He anticipates having language for the next board meeting, and asked for the negotiations committee to meet at 5 p.m. prior to the July meeting.

In other action, the board moved:

  • to accept the irrevocable letter of intent to retire from Randy Redfeairn, facilities manager, effective July 25, 2025;
