Jackie L. Batson, 88, of Walnut Hill, passed away at 11:38 a.m. Monday, May 31, 2021, at Odin Health Care and Rehab Center. He served in both the United States Air Force and the United States Army Reserve, and later worked for the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Graveside Funeral Services for Mr. Batson will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri. Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 8, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Osborn Funeral Home in Dix, Illinois. Mr. Batson is survived by one son, Kevin Batson of Walnut Hill; one daughter, Sheryl Powenski and husband David of Centralia; two step sons, James Starner of Granite City, Illinois, and Robert Starner of Sadalia, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Angela Sue Keiffer and husband Bobby of Nashville, Christopher Batson of Nashville, Zackery Kabat of Nashville, Sarah Raymer and husband Doug of Connecticut, Andrew Kabat of Nashville, Gavin Baston of Walnut Hill, and Maelynn Batson of Walnut Hill; and four great-grandchildren, Cody Keiffer, Rheanna and Autum Keiffer, and Riley Raymer.
He was born October 28, 1932, in Cobden, Illinois, the son of Carl Lee and Edith (Tolley) Batson. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Douglas Batson; and one brother, Robert Gene Batson.
