The Salem Wildcats are 2-1 after a 29-7 beating of visiting Mattoon Friday night. Trey Clark rushed 18 times for 176 yards and 1 touchdown. Kaeden Bevolo went 12-of-17 for 210 yards and 2 touchdowns, both to Kyler King from 57 and 24. King caught 5 balls for 140 yards. Andrew Greene also had a rushing touchdown. Salem’s defense was very good, as Max Vincent was in the backfield most of the game, and helped Salem with a safety and another sack. Salem outgained Mattoon 448-151 in total yards as the Cats will play their first ever SI River to River game next week at Harrisburg.
The Centralia Orphans are 3-0 after their 50-7 pounding of visiting Jerseyville to Evers Field. Centralia scored the first 23 points of the game. Ja’Shawn Staples and Coooper Green had 2 touchdowns each on the ground and Archie Goewey was 16-25 for 124 yards with 2 scoring passes, one to Dre Hooper and the other to Kenny Bratton. Centralia outgained the Panthers 363-131 in total yards. Centralia improves to 2-0 in the Cahokia Conference with a showdown against 3-0 Freeburg next Friday in Freeburg.
